Abingdon Sea Cadet Band



Abingdon Sea Cadet Band started in December 2002 under the musical Direction of Bandmaster Petty Officer (scc) Marc Pether.
After spending time with the  Royal Green Jackets Waterloo Band & Bugles  PO Pether returned to Abingdon Sea Cadets as an instructor and raised the initial money to procure Band equipment to enable the cadets to begin on their musical training.
In June of 2003 the Abingdon Band entered the Southern Area Band contest (there first public display) and out of 5 Novice class bands came joint 3rd and in the same competition Drum Major Mike Hammond came 4th out of the 10 Drum Majors to enter.
 
The rest of 2003 saw the Band perform local at many different events the high light of this was leading the Royal British Legion through the Town of Abingdon on the day they received there new standard 82 years to the day of the Branch forming.
 
2004 Brings new challenges to the Band as well as the Southern Area Band Contest the Band have already been booked to play on St George's day in the centre of Oxford and to play for the Town of Abingdon as they launch the Abingdon in Bloom festival, The Band will also play a part in this years 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
